On September 29, 2026, representatives of the Odesa City Branch of the public organization “Odesa Regional Organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine” visited the National University “Odesa Maritime Academy”. The delegation was led by Deputy Head of the organization Iryna Lupashko.
An informational and educational event was held for first-year cadets of the Educational and Research Institute of Navigation. Its aim was to raise young people’s awareness of safety and of how to act in emergencies.
The meeting included a session titled “Raising Awareness of the Risks of Explosive Objects and the Algorithm for Safer Behavior”. Cadets learned about the main risks posed by explosive objects, the rules of safe behavior, and what to do if such an object is found. Participants were also introduced to the family emergency preparedness plan.
Representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross spoke about the organization’s main areas of work, the importance of developing the volunteer movement, and the involvement of volunteers in emergency response.
A separate part of the event consisted of two humanitarian education sessions, “Life Skills”, in which cadets developed practical skills in communication and teamwork. A lively coffee break gave Red Cross representatives an opportunity to chat informally with the cadets and to gather feedback from the young people.
An important part of the meeting was the presentation of charitable aid to the university. The university received a set of visual-aid stands, “Mines and Explosive Objects”, an informational and visual case with models of explosive objects, a first aid kit set, and collective first aid kits. The materials will be used in classes and training sessions at the Department of Life Safety and will also be placed in the university’s shelters for practical use.
Addressing the participants were Acting Rector of the National University “Odesa Maritime Academy”, Professor Vadym Zakharchenko, and Vice-Rector for Administrative and Economic Affairs Serhii Myza. They thanked the representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross for the informative meeting, their important educational work, and the charitable aid provided to the university.
Events like this help cadets build practical skills for safe behavior, readiness to act in emergencies, and a responsible attitude toward their own safety and the safety of those around them.
