On 15 October 2026, cadets of the National University “Odesa Maritime Academy”, led by S.F. Martynenko, Head of the Department of Practical Training and Employment of NU “OMA”, took part in the Open Day at the Epsilon Training Centre in Odesa.

During the visit, participants learned about the centre’s capabilities and its training and simulator facilities, and were introduced to the SeaAhead initiative, co-funded by the European Union. The project aims to promote European vocational excellence and innovation in maritime education and in the training of the next generation of maritime professionals.

Particular attention was given to discussing the professional training needs of future seafarers. The cadets took an active part in the discussions and networking sessions, where they had the opportunity to meet representatives of the shipping industry and build useful professional contacts. Among the participants was Maria Paidi, Head of the Crew Department at Laskaridis Maritime S.A.

The organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to the cadets and Academy representatives for their time, enthusiasm and active participation, noting that the engagement of the young people made the event truly special. The Epsilon team invited the cadets to stay in touch, explore the centre’s course programmes and share their feedback.

Meetings like this with leading maritime training centres and shipping companies give NU “OMA” cadets a better understanding of current labour market requirements, open up prospects for professional development, and help them take their first steps towards a career at sea.
